The Scarsdale Diet was one of the first diets to advocate a low carbohydrate approach to weight loss. The Scarsdale Diet claims you will lose a pound a day. It has since lost popularity to such diets as Atkins and the Zone, even though it is very similar. The Scarsdale Diet is a good starter diet to lose a lot of weight quickly, but you will need to find an alternative to transition to after the initial weight loss period if you don’t want to put the weight right back on. Scarsdale Diet Program Details
Cost - There is no cost involved with the Scarsdale Diet with the exception perhaps of books to learn about it.
Meals - Meals are low carbohydrate and hign protein with moderate fats. You should be eating protein with every meal. The Scarsdale Diet allows for only three meals a day, no snacks. You should also be drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day, although diet sodas and teas are acceptable alternatives.
Exercise - The Scarsdale Diet does not advocate or encourage exercise, especially for those over 40.
Diet Duration - The Scarsdale diet lasts for 7-14 days after which you should transition to another more moderate weight loss plan. During the initial 7-14 days the Scarsdale Diet claims you will lose a pound a day.
Time Commitment - There is no time commitment with the Scarsdale Diet. In fact, you will probably spend less time than normal in food preparation.
Strict/Flexible - The Scarsdale Diet is extremely strict and the low carbohydrate high protein diet must be followed exactly. The Scarsdale Diet recommends that you use an herbal diet suppressent such as hoodia gordinii.
